A YOUTH band hopes to set a world record by performing the longest brass band rehearsal.

On Friday, March 30, Dobcross Youth Band will attempt to break the current record of 24 hours, playing throughout the day and into the night.

As part of the Guinness World Record attempt, the band will be fundraising for a visit to France and Belgium this summer, where they are set to perform at the Menin Gate war memorial.

Dobcross Youth Band needs to raise a total of £2,000 for the memorable trip.

"The band members are hoping to raise as much money to hopefully fund their trip of a lifetime."

The world record attempt will start at 12.30pm and continue throughout the day and night as the group looks to beat the existing 24-hour record.

This year marks 30 years of Dobcross Youth Band and so the group is calling on ex-players or other musicians to help them with their efforts.

The band is also due to perform at the Menin Gate remembrance service.
