It's important to see people who look like you in the media you consume and the advertising you see. It lets you know that someone who looks like you has unlimited possibilities and can also live the lifestyles being shown on the screen. However, a lot of the time the images we see are far too retouched or don't show people of all sizes. That's why lately many brands have decided to stop retouching images and also why brands are working with more diverse groups for ad campaigns. As reported by HelloGiggles, Target is one of these brands and its new swimsuit campaign, with completely unretouched images, is totally gorgeous.
Though Target isn't the first to do a totally unretouched swimsuit or underwear shoot, the brands they've taken a cue from certainly had a good idea, and the Target campaign, featuring women of different sizes trying on the new swimsuits, is beautiful.
A press release from the brand says, "To show off the new styles you’ll see bright, vibrant images throughout our marketing campaign—all meant to inspire guests to have fun while rocking their favorite swimsuit. Something you won’t see? Reshaping or airbrushing. Building on the strong foundation we set with last year’s campaign, we’re celebrating women and encouraging them to embrace the beauty of their own bodies." That's a totally worthy mission and it looks like they accomplished their goal.
If you're onboard, shop the swimsuits at Target's website. The pieces in the collection go from $15 to $50, with most pieces under $25.
