OK, let's get real: It's likely that most of us probably don't clean our makeup brushes as often as we should. Many folks simply don't know how often a good cleaning is necessary. According to the pros, we should be sudsing up our tools about once a week (at the minimum) to keep bacteria at bay and prevent breakouts. Beyond how often, there's also the simple question of how to do it, and Kim Kardashian's makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic recently let us in on his personal technique on Instagram.

Dedivanovic has been using Philosophy's Purity Made Simple Cleanser ever since he worked at Sephora 18 years ago. He said in the video that people used to come in and ask for it all the time, and that he loves it because it doesn't dry out his face in the shower like some other cleansers do. He also said that it removes all traces of eye makeup but is still gentle on the face. The biggest revelation, however, is that he also uses it to clean his makeup brushes.

It makes sense; if it gently cleans all traces of makeup from your face, it would likely do the same for your brushes. If other soaps can do the trick, it's logical that a facial cleanser would work well, too, but I've never thought to use my favorite face wash on my favorite face tools. Next time you're soaping up your skin, skip drying your hands and go straight for a brush cleaning session.

If that still seems like too much work, you can do what one of our editors does and skip brushes altogether. Sometimes, your own hands are the best tools for applying makeup.
