MANSFIELD - The Ohio Highway Patrol is investigating a Friday night fatal crash on US 30 near Reed Road.

Shortly after 8:38 p.m., it was reported a man had been struck by a vehicle after walking onto the eastbound lanes of US 30.

Christopher Fowler, 50, of Ashland exited his 2004 Saturn Ion after crashing into the median. He was then struck by a 2016 Volvo semi driven by Samuel Spade, 31, of Galion.

Fowler died of his injuries at the scene. Spade was not injured, according to the Richland County post of the Ohio Highway Patrol.

Mifflin Township EMS, ODOT and the Richland County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene. US 30 eastbound lanes were closed for two hours while the crash was being investigated.

It is unknown if alcohol and drug usage were a factor in the crash, the patrol stated.
