A new set of Forever Stamps are being released by the U.S. Postal Service next month that focus on STEM education, and they were created by a Baltimore artist.
"This is a recently released hardcover, the 200th anniversary of 'Mary Shelley's Frankenstein,' fully illustrated," graphic design artist David Plunkert said.
It was fully illustrated by Plunkert inside his Hamden studio, where people can find hundreds of his illustrations.
Everyone will get a chance to see his work next month, when it comes out in red, white and blue on a 1-inch canvas, so to speak.
"I have a set of STEM stamps coming out from the United States Postal Service," Plunkert said.
Out of tens of thousands of designs, Plunkert's artwork was chosen for a series of four Forever Stamps to represent STEM education. He said it was tricky coming up with just the right formula.
"Well, the stamps have to communicate to scientists, mathematicians and engineers, but it also needs to communicate to kids and adults who are interested in STEM education," Plunkert said.
Plunkert said he hopes the stamps will be inspiring, and he's excited to reach perhaps his largest audience yet.
"I would say this is as close as I get to having my work seen by everyone in the United States," Plunkert said.
The new STEM stamps will be officially released April 6.
