A spokesperson for Entergy New Orleans previously told WDSU that the price would be passed on to consumers, in the form of an extra $5.84 per month for the average customer for up to 30 years.

The 226-megawatt facility will cost more than $200 million.

The primary issues for residents focused on health and environmental concerns because some residents live and work within miles of the proposed plant.

Those in favor of the plant said they support Entergy's plan because they want New Orleans East to have its own power supply.

The power company argued that the facility is needed because there currently isn't enough power generated to meet the demands of residents or stabilize the city's power grid.

Entergy still needs to get an air quality permit from the U.S. Department of Environmental Quality before moving forward with the plant. That permit essentially makes sure that all Environmental Protection Agency and state air emission standards will be met.
