Tim Tebow injures ankle tripping over sprinkler head

USA TODAY Sports
Tim Tebow batted .226 over 126 games in the minors last season.

Tim Tebow suffered a freak accident roaming the outfield.

The New York Mets outfielder and former Heisman Trophy winner tripped on a sprinkler head in the outfield and sprained his ankle, an injury he said happened early last week.

“I’m trying to be smart about it and keep (the ankle) taped,” Tebow told reporters after workouts Sunday.

The Mets listed him as day-to-day. Tebow has been limited to batting practice and is expected to resume full workouts in a few days.

In his first full season in the minors last season, Tebow, 30, hit .226 with eight home runs and 126 strikeout in 126 games between Hi-A and Low-A.
