Two boys knocking on doors in Beckenham claiming to be raising money for a Lambeth football club are fraudsters, according to the team in question.

Lambeth Tigers told News Shopper that the scam has been around for years in different locations.

A spokesman said: "A number of reports have been made as this has been going on for a number of years now, in a number of different areas across south London.

"These criminals have nothing to do with Lambeth Tigers Football Club."

Residents in MacKenzie Road took to social media to report that the scammers were looking for money.

One man wrote: "Two boys knocked on my door tonight (MacKenzie Road in Beckenham) purportedly raising money for The Lambeth Tigers. They have a couple of donation forms on them.

"After they had gone I contacted the club and it said it was not currently collecting money, and it is a scam, so if these boys come to your door, tell them you'll call the police or simply don't give them anything."

Someone else wrote that the boys were spotted outside a Sainsbury's in Beckenham.

Another claimed to have spoken to the boys in MacKenzie Road and said she remembered thinking "how nice and polite" they were.
