Locally...with swimming district results

Area swimmers compete in district meet

Area swimmers took part in the Division II district meet on Friday and Division I on Saturday at Ohio University.

No area swimmers qualified for the state meet.

The Tri-Valley girls set three school records with Kieranda McGee, Claudia Frueh, Caroline Holmes and Larissa Lynch in the 200 medley (19th, 1:59.23) and 200 free (15th, 1:44.3)relays and Holmes in the 100 free (20th, :53.76). Holmes was also 14th in the 100 back (:59.53) in Division I.

In Division II, John Glenn’s Tara Curtis was fifth in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.48) and was on the 19th-place 200 medley relay with Olivia Alexander, Alayna Call and Kaitlyn Zumbro (2:11.34) to lead area girls finishers.

The Zanesville 400 free relay of Kade Hambel, Brian Berry, Gabe Dolen and Leyton Needles was 14th (3:51) and 200 free of Needles, Tyler Tompkins, Hambel and Jack Thorne was 16th (1:41.12), while the John Glenn 200 free of Nicholas Andrews, Noah St. Clair, Alex Halasi and Robbie Mihalko was 17th (1:41.32) to highlight the boys efforts.

Maysville selling pre-sale tickets

Maysville is selling advance tickets for its girls Division II sectional tournament game against East Liverpool set for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21 at Maysville High School.

Advance tickets are $6 for adults and students and all tickets are $7 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at the school during school hours.

Fieldhouse hosting T-Ball & Coach Pitch Leagues

Pepsi-Cola Instructional Tee-Ball, for boys and girls ages 2 1/2 to 4, and Coach Pitch, 6-8, baseball leagues begin Feb. 24 and run for five weeks on the Indoor Baseball field at The Fieldhouse in Sunrise Center.

Cost is $39 for members and $45 for nonmembers. The Fieldhouse Foundation will provide scholarships for youth who qualify.

OYB holding state basketball championships

The 15th annual Ohio Youth Basketball School Team State Championships, for boys and girls in grades 3-6, will held Feb. 24-25.

Three different divisions in each grade based on school size. More than 150 teams are expected to compete.

Hunters Education Class to be held

A Hunters Education Class will be held March 2-3, at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, located at 545 Richey Rd. in Zanesville.
