Here are four prep postseason events to keep an eye on this week:
1. Girls basketball: Lynnwood vs. Shorecrest, 6 p.m. Tuesday. The winner of this 3A Northwest District tournament semifinal game clinches a spot in the tourney’s championship game and a 3A state regional berth. The Royals (13-9 overall) have won five of their past six games, defeating Edmonds-Woodway 77-64 last Thursday in a tournament game to advance. The Scots (15-6) rebounded from back-to-back losses to Snohomish and Arlington to defeat Stanwood in their final regular-season game of the season and Ferndale in a first-round tournament game.
2. Boys basketball: Kamiak vs. Glacier Peak, 8 p.m. Thursday. The winner of this 4A Northwest District tournament championship game secures a spot in the 4A state regional round. After losing by 37 points to the Grizzlies on Jan. 5, the Knights posted a 66-62 overtime win over Glacier Peak on Jan. 30.
3. Wrestling: Mat Classic XXX, Friday-Saturday. There will be many interesting local storylines to watch, such as Lake Stevens’ quest to win the 4A team title and Stanwood’s Mason Phillips going for yet another unbeaten season and 3A state championship. Other local grapplers to watch include Marysville Pilchuck’s Cole Daurie, Marysville Getchell’s Trey Padgett, Mariner’s Joshua Giron, Mountlake Terrace’s Reyne Mack, Sultan’s Tre Sargent, Lakewood’s Cassidy O’Hara and Everett’s Stephanie Ramirez.
4. Boys swimming and diving: WIAA 2A/3A/4A state championships, Friday-Saturday. There’s a good chance Jackson’s Jon Cook will take a final victory lap and wrap up his spectacular prep career with more 4A state championships at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way. In the 3A competition, local athletes to watch for include Meadowdale’s Sean Nguyenle, Snohomish’s Jonah Schedin and Everett’s Ethan Ahrendt.
