Heath Farwell has spent six of the past seven years playing or coaching special teams in Seattle. Those days may be coming to an end.

A source told Sporting News that Farwell is interviewing to become the Panthers' new assistant special teams coach.

Farwell took the same position with Seattle in 2016, one year removed from a four-year stint as a Seahawks special teams captain and backup linebacker.

The Panthers have a vacancy following Chase Blackburn's promotion to head special teams coach. Blackburn is replacing Thomas McGaughey, whose contract expired. McGaughey has subsequently reached agreement to become the Giants' new special teams coach.

Both moves were first reported by Sporting News.

Farwell carved his NFL niche on special teams after making the Vikings in 2005 as a college free agent from San Diego State. He spent six seasons with the Vikings, earning Pro Bowl honors on special teams in 2009.

Farwell could become part of an across-the-board staff shakeup by Seahawks coach Pete Carroll — including the firing of both coordinators (Darrell Bevell, offense; Kris Richard, defense) — following a 9-7 finish in 2017 that marked the end of Seattle's five-year playoff streak.

Alex Marvez can be heard from 8-11 p.m. ET Wednesday and Thursday on SiriusXM NFL Radio.
