A new board member has taken a seat on the Marion County Board of Developmental Disabilities.

Karime Hord was appointed to the board earlier this month, according to a press release issued by the board of developmental disabilities. Hord has two sons, one of whom has been diagnosed with autism, according to the release.

Hord is excited to be on the board and advocate for her son and others with developmental disabilities, the release says.

“I’ve always been aware of developmental disabilities because I grew up with an aunt who needed DD services. She was one of five children and went on to hold a job, live on her own, and enjoy her community. I want that same kind of inclusion for Jase,” Hord is quoted as saying in the release, referring to her 4-year-old son.

Cheryl Plaster, superintendent of the board of developmental disabilities, was quoted in the release as saying she was excited to have Hord on the board.

“Hord brings talent, experience and energy to the table. We are very fortunate to have her by our side as we continue to create community awareness, and provide opportunities for those we serve to live, learn and earn here in Marion County,” she said.

Hord is married to Ryan Hord, whose family owns and operates Storad Label Company in Marion.

In addition to her duties at Storad, Hord is active with Downtown Marion, Inc., a nonprofit that promotes downtown Marion.
