Lancaster to induct 14 former outstanding athletes to Wall of Honor

LANCASTER – There will be 14 inductees into the Lancaster High School Wall of Honor. The women’s induction is scheduled for Jan. 26 and men’s induction will be on Feb. 9.

The induction ceremonies will take place prior to varsity basketball games each of those nights.

The list of inductees and their accomplishments are as follows.

Heather Powers - Class of 2006: 12 High School Varsity Letters; Volleyball: All-American Freshmen Team 2002, 2nd Team All-Ohio 2005, All-OCC 2003-2005, All-District 2003-2005; Basketball: All-OCC 2003-2005, All-District 2003-2005; Track: Shot put State runner up 2005, Shot Put and Discus State Champion 2006, All-OCC 2003-2006, All-District 2003-2006. Track Scholarship to Miami University, Ohio, Volleyball Scholarship to Urbana University, three Varsity Letters, American Mid-West, and All-conference.

Nicole Kendrick - Class of 2002: Two-time State Champion Shot Put; University of South Carolina (and Syracuse University); six-time Jr. All-American, Jr. National Team Member in 2002, Big East Conference Academic All-American, lIAAF World Competitor in 2002, USATF Jr national Runner-up, NCAA Academic All-American NCAA Indoor Shot Put Finalist

Stephanie Blanton - Class of 2003: Division I Ohio Co-player of the year 2003, 1st Team All-Ohio 2003, Team District and Regional Champions in 2002; OCC Player of the year 2000, 2002, 2003, three-time 1st Team OCC, three-time District 1st Team      and 2002 District Player of the Year; Scored 1,895 career points (top male or female). Volleyball - Team District Champions, two-time District and OCC Player of the Year; Ohio State University (played 4 years), three-time OSU Scholar athlete, Academic All-Big10 in 2005, Selected for the Big 10 European Tour.

Samantha Swinehart - Class of 2010: 2007 fourth place in State Golf Tournament, 2008 State Champion, 2009 State Runner-up, First Team All-Ohio 2007, 2008, 2009; University of South Carolina Class of 2014 Graduated Magna Cum Laude; 2010, 2012 Qualified for the US Women’s Amateur , 2010 Qualified for the US Girls Junior Championship; 2014 second Team All-American (13th), second Team All-SEC, All-American Scholar 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014; PGA Class A Golf Professional, active member of Carolinas PGA. Tie for 4th in South Carolina Open, tie for 6th CPGA Assistants Championship; 2017 nomination for CPGA Assistant Pro of the Year.

Allie White - Class of 2008: Two-time Girls Golf State Champion in 2006, 2007, All-Ohio Girls Golf in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007; OCC Boys Tennis Team Champions 2007, Varsity Letter Girls Basketball 2005, 2006, 2007; US Women’s Open Golf Contestant 2009, Ohio Women's Golf Amateur Champion 2009 University of North Carolina ACC Golf Team Champions 2011; Ohio Women’s Open Golf Champion 2016, LPGA Manulife Classic Contestant in 2017.

Katie Maynard - Class of 2002: Fast Pitch Softball – four high school perfect games, 18 high school no-hitters, 51 shut-outs, 411 strike outs senior year, two-time 1st team All-Ohio. Virginia Tech - 650 career strikeouts, 13 career shut-outs, two no-hitters and one perfect game.

Alexis Lape - Class of 2005: track - four-time OCC 1st team,  4-time District 1st Team, 4-time State qualifier, 2005  300 hurdle State Champion. Miami University, 4-year Varsity letterman; 3-time NCAA Championships qualifier, third-fastest 400 hurdle all-time.

Kyle Greathouse - Class of 2003: 2003 basketball Player of the Year of Ohio Coaches Association, AP 2nd-Team All-Ohio, All-OCC, top 10 list 3-point shots and assists at Lancaster High School, OCC Player of the Year in 2003. Western Carolina University – four-year starter and two-time captain.

Robert “Bobby” Sparks - Class of 1975: Sectional and District Champ Golf, State Runner-up Golf, League Champion, USGA Jr. Amateur champ. Ohio University – four-year letterman, MAC Champion, All-Conference, NCAA Qualifier.           

Tom Plinke - Class of 1949: Basketball 1st Team All-Ohio, 1st Team all-conference. 1st Team All-District, 1st Team All-Region. Valparaiso – Basketball Team Captain

Jonathon Carpenter - Class of 2004: two-time All-OCC Football, 1st Team All-State Football, and 1st Team All-District Football. Multiple school records in Football. University of Cincinnati – four-year letterman; three-time All-Big East Academic Team.

Jim Cordle - Class of 2009: 1st Team All-Ohio, four-time varsity letterman. Ohio State University football starter, played in East/West Shrine Game, five-time Big Ten Champions. New York Giants - Super Bowl Champion 2012.

Gary Smeck - Class of 2001: Mount Union University football – had 100-plus passing touchdowns, three-time National Champion, two-time All-American, 10,000 career passing yards, 40-1 at record as a starter at Mount Union.

Ben Gilbert - Class of 1996: First Team All-Ohio Football, played in Ohio North/South Game; two-time Shot Put State Champion. Ohio State football – two-time Big Ten Champions, Rose and Sugar Bowl Champions, East/West Shrine game. Professional Football - Indianapolis Colts
