The dead period officially ends at midnight on Thursday night/Friday morning but things have been busy for the Florida Gators coaching staff.
The coaching staff has been sending out a lot of offers over the last few days to underclassmen and to one 2018 prospect.
GatorCountry.com brings you this notebook to get you caught up on the offers, plus a look at the official visitors that are scheduled to visit Florida before signing day.
New offers going out
With the early signing period over the Gators signed 13 members of the 2018 class which means they’re able to turn some focus on underclassmen now. Over the last few days 7 of the 8 offers given out were to underclassmen. Here are the guys that picked up offers starting with a 2018 prospect.
2018 receiver Geordon Porter (6-2, 180, Rancho Cucamonga, CA. Etiwanda) picked up an offer on Tuesday. Porter has already taken three official visits and visits Tennessee this weekend. Porter says he’s deciding on fifth visit between Florida, Texas A&M, Oregon State and Iowa State.
2019 defensive end Mohamoud Diabete (6-4, 220, Auburn, AL. High) is one of the top guys in the state of Alabama for 2019.
2019 cornerback Cam’Ron Kelly (6-1, 190, Chesapeake, VA. Oscar Smith) plays corner but also has played some quarterback and receiver at Oscar Smith.
2019 DE Collin Clay (6-5, 229, Oklahoma City, OK. Putnam City) is favored to Oklahoma but is one of the top pass rushers for 2019.
2019 defensive end Keyon Ware-Hudson (6-3, 265, Santa Ana, CA. Mater Dei) is originally from Alabama so the SEC schools have his attention.
2019 defensive back Chris Steele (6-1, 188, Bellflower, CA. St. John Bosco) called his Florida offer his dream offer and he wants to visit Florida.
2020 DE Tyler Baron (6-4, 215, Nashville, TN. Ensworth) was excited to get a Florida offer but Tennessee is the team to beat early on.
2020 WR Michael Wyman (6-4, 195, Greensboro, NC. Dudley) plans to visit Florida on February 3rd for the Gators first junior day under Dan Mullen.
Official visitors for Florida
Florida isn’t hosting any official visitors this weekend but the coaching staff will be out on the road as the Gators will have three more weekends for official visitors before signing day.
Here’s who is planning on visiting Gainesville before signing day.
January 19th weekend
Receiver Justin Watkins (5-11, 172, Clermont, FL. East Ridge) who was set to decide between LSU and Alabama at the Under Armour game but pushed back his decision. Florida and LSU now look to be the teams to watch.
Miami defensive tackle commit Nesta Silvera (6-2, 308, Fort Lauderdale, FL. American Heritage) has been solid to Miami but has kept the door open some to Florida. Tight ends coach JaJuan Seider is working Silvera hard and has gotten the Gators a visit.
Defensive end Caleb Johnson (6-3, 250, Columbus, GA. Northside) plans to visit Georgia this weekend followed by the Florida trip. Florida and Tennessee are two schools coming after Johnson hard and Georgia is also in the mix but there’s a question on if they will have room for him or not.
January 26th weekend
Defensive end Malik Langham (6-5, 269, Huntsville, AL. Lee) is a guy that has seen his stock rise a lot since his senior year film came out. Langham has visits to Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee and Florida planned after visiting Notre Dame in December.
February 2nd weekend
JUCO defensive tackle Noah Jefferson (6-6, 330, Arizona Western College) has called Florida his leader in the past and he has a good relationship with Dan Mullen. Ole Miss and Louisville are also scheduled to get visits with Ole Miss being the Gators biggest competition.
Defensive tackle Jamarcus Chatman (6-2, 258, Rome, GA. High) plans to visit North Carolina, Florida State, Ole Miss, Michigan State and Florida before signing day. Chatman decomitted from Tennessee in December but remained in contact JaJuan Seider even while committed to the Vols.
Auburn defensive tackle commit Coynis Miller (6-2, 300, Birmingham, AL. Jackson-Olin) once called Florida his leader but backed off of that and committed to Auburn. Auburn will be tough to beat here but Miller has remained interested in the Gators.
Defensive back Mario Goodrich (6-2, 180, Lees Summit, MO. Lee’s Summit West) picked up an offer from Florida in December and quickly scheduled an official visit to Florida. Goodrich is a really strong athlete that could play on either side of the ball.
Alabama linebacker commit Quay Walker (6-4, 220, Cordele, GA. Crisp County) is best friends with Gators signee Trey Dean and he has called Florida his dream school in the past. Walker visits Auburn, Tennessee and Georgia before Florida and all three are strong contenders to flip him from Alabama with Florida also strongly in the mix.
JUCO defensive end Dorian Gerald (6-3, 260, College of the Canyons) has a strong relationship with Florida and he admits that the Gators are pushing the hardest for him at this time.
Receiver Jacob Copeland (6-0, 192, Pensacola, FL. Escambia) has kept Florida in the mix despite his decommitment earlier this year. Copeland visits Alabama and Texas A&M before Florida but the Gators toughest competition is likely Tennessee.
Visiting but no date decided
Offensive lineman Nick Petit-Frere is scheduled to visit Florida either on the 19th or the 26th with the other visit going to Alabama. Petit-Frere will visit Ohio State the last weekend before signing day. Ohio State and Alabama have a leg up on Florida at this time.
