Mullen completes his first coaching staff at Florida

Dan Mullen has finished his inaugural Florida Gators coaching staff.

Ron English will be the Gators’ tenth and final assistant coach. English coached safeties at Mississippi State and will continue coaching that position at Florida. English was only at Mississippi State for one season. English was the defensive coordinator at San Jose State for a season prior to joining Mullen at Mississippi State.

Prior to that Ron English was the head coach of Eastern Michigan for five seasons. He took over in 2009 and went 11-46 before being abruptly fired after a 1-8 start in 2013. English was named Mid-American Conference coach of the year in 2011 after his Eagles’ finished with a 6-6 record.

English began his coaching career in 1993 at San Antonio College and has more than 26 years of coaching experience, 20 at the FBS level.

Additionally on Thursday Mullen released the coaching assignments for all 10 of his of-field assistants.

Todd Grantham – Defensive Coordinator
Billy Gonzales – Co-Offensive Coordinator, Wide Receivers
John Hevesy – Co-Offensive Coordinator, Offensive Line
Greg Knox – Running Backs, Special Teams Coordinator
Brian Johnson – Quarterbacks
Ja’Juan Seider – Tight Ends
Sal Sunseri – Defensive Line
Christian Robinson – Linebackers
Charlton Warren – Cornerbacks
Ron English – Safeties

Nick de la Torre
A South Florida native, Nick developed a passion for all things sports at a very young age. His love for baseball was solidified when he saw Al Leiter’s no-hitter for the Marlins live in May of 1996. He was able to play baseball in college but quickly realized there isn’t much of a market for short, slow outfielders that hit around the Mendoza line. Wanting to continue with sports in some capacity he studied journalism at the University of Central Florida. Nick got his first start in the business as an intern for a website covering all things related to the NFL draft before spending two seasons covering the Florida football team at Bleacher Report. That job led him to GatorCountry. When he isn’t covering Gator sports, Nick enjoys hitting way too many shots on the golf course, attempting to keep up with his favorite t.v. shows and watching the Heat, Dolphins and Marlins.
