Ole Miss Football: Ole Miss Welcomes James Williams, SDE

Ole Miss football recruiting made a statement on December 20 with the early signing period. The Rebels inked 14 players of which several were flips from other programs.

Ole Miss football stepped up recruiting over the past few weeks since the Egg Bowl. One of their main focuses has been targeting some of the top defensive talent available. One of those top defensive players is James Williams. Out of Callaway High School in Jackson, Mississippi Williams is one of the top defensive ends in the state.

Of course, Williams was a solid commit to Miss State until former Bulldogs head coach Dan Mullen left for Gainesville. Ole Miss needed a strong defensive end to shore up their defense and they found the player in James Williams. Ole Miss welcome James Williams to the Rebels family and OHT wants to introduce him.

At 6’5″ and 285 lbs James Williams is a work horse at the defensive end position. While at Callaway Williams was unstoppable and could literally not be blocked. Williams had an incredible 2016 season where he had 90 tackles, 12 sacks, 17 tackles for loss and a forced fumble.

James Williams is a 2017 Clarion Ledger Dandy Dozen selection, He is also an Offense-Defense All American Bowl selection and received offers from Alabama, Miss State, Georgia and Louisville among others. Of course, he flipped his commitment on early signing day to ink his letter of intent with Ole Miss.

Williams is a player who can make an immediate impact on the defensive side of the ball for the Rebels. Coaches Wesley McGriff and Freddie Roach did an excellent job evaluating and recruiting Jame Williams. OHT wouldn’t be surprised if Williams gets the starting defensive end position in the 2018 season.
