Preparing For Your First Visit

Braces in Denver and Stapleton CO Is it time for orthodontic treatment? Whether you are a young adult or a grown adult, experienced Denver orthodontist Dr. Robert Rudman is ready to discuss your options. Below is an overview of what you can expect.

Evaluation and Consultation

In your first appointment with Dr. Rudman, he will examine your mouth, teeth and gums. He will also want to hear from you about what changes you would like to see and what your goals are. From this information, Dr. Rudman can describe the likely treatment options available to you. This appointment usually takes about 30 minutes.

Orthodontic treatment corrects a wide range of issues:

  • Misaligned bite
  • Crooked teeth
  • Crowded teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Certain jaw alignment problems

The initial evaluation is your time to ask about any concerns you have, and to discuss the reasons you are interested in orthodontia. Dr. Rudman will make sure the right treatments are matched to your goals.

When you schedule your appointment, we will let you know what things would be helpful to bring to the office, such as your last dental X-ray and your dental insurance card. Not all policies provide coverage for orthodontics, but some do and we’ll be able to help you determine your coverage.

Diagnostic Imaging

Denver and Stapleton orthodontics

After the initial discussion, if you decide you want to move forward with treatment, diagnostic images will be taken. If the patient’s schedule and our schedule permits it, we may recommend combining this imaging appointment with your initial evaluation. It takes about another hour.

Imaging collected will include X-rays and intraoral photos. Dr. Rudman uses these images to see precisely how your teeth need to move in order to produce the desired results. He can then describe the detailed treatment plan to you, including:

  • Specific systems that will work for you, such as traditional braces or Invisalign®
  • The estimated treatment length
  • What you can expect in terms of frequency of appointments and what will take place in those appointments
  • Costs, financing and insurance coverage

Once you have all this information, you should feel confident about your treatment plan going forward. The in-depth imaging of your mouth ensures your treatment plan is tailored to your unique teeth and bite.

Am I the Right Age for Braces?

The age of orthodontic patients ranges wide these days. Many adults are getting braces, seeing the benefits of having a healthy bite and a smile they are proud to share. You’re never too old for braces! As for the younger end of the spectrum, parents are encouraged to schedule an evaluation for children as young as 7. At this early age, Dr. Rudman can evaluate how the teeth and jaws are developing. Once that is established, he can make recommendations regarding when your child should start orthodontic treatment or certain early interventional treatments. So any age from 7 and up is a great time to see Dr. Rudman.
