Upper Arlington 61, Chillicothe 33

The Cavaliers (4-1) suffered their first loss of the season Saturday night with a road trip to Upper Arlington.

Branden Maughmer led Chillicothe with 13 points and four rebounds while Jayvon Maughmer added seven points. Will Roderick also pitched in with five points, three rebounds and two assists.

Unioto 74, Westfall 28

The Shermans (4-1, 4-0 SVC) continued to roll in conference play with a 46-point win over Westfall Saturday evening, extending their record SVC winning streak to 59.

Peyton Hill led Unioto in scoring with 18 points while Logan Swackhammer scored 15 and added three rebounds and six assists. Brandon Kennedy added nine points and six rebounds, and Gabe Fisher scored four points and brought down a team-high 11 boards.

Individual statistics for Westfall (2-4, 2-2 SVC) were not provided to the Gazette.

The Pioneers (4-2, 3-1 SVC) got their third straight win Saturday evening with an 11-point victory over Southeastern.

Zane Trace was led by Cam Evans with 23 points, five rebounds and three assists while Isaac Beam posted a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Triton Davidson also contributed with six points and six rebounds.

For Southeastern (3-3, 2-2 SVC), Lane Ruby had 14 points, Aaron Gillum scored 13 points and Rex Hartman had eight.

Piketon was led by Tanner Perdue with 27 points while Blake Reader added 10. The Huntsmen (0-5, 0-4 SVC) were paced by DJ Kinzer with 10 points, followed by Canaan Knoles with eight.

Chillicothe 50, Hillsboro 28

The Cavaliers (4-4, 2-2 FAC) evened both their overall and conference records Saturday with a 22-point win over Hillsboro at Hatton Memorial Gymnasium.

Leading Chillicothe to the win was Shawnice Smtih with 17 points and nine rebounds while Shawnee Smith added 10 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Makenzie Greene also helped out, scoring 11.

Southeastern 57, Zane Trace 25

The Panthers (6-1, 4-0 SVC) won their 31st consecutive contest in conference play Saturday with a win over Zane Trace in Kinnikinnick.

Southeastern was led by Ella Skeens with 23 points, four rebounds and three assists while Skylar Hice added 11 points and six rebounds. Rachel Collins was also a factor, scoring 10 points and grabbing three boards.

For the Pioneers (0-7, 0-4 SVC), Lauren Lane had seven points while Sydney Shively had six points and five rebounds.

The Tanks (6-0, 4-0 SVC) kept pace with Southeastern at the top of the SVC with a win over Westfall.

Leading Unioto to the win was Jocie Fisher with 14 points, followed by Carly Adkins with 10. Emily Coleman also added eight points in the victory.

The Mustangs (2-5, 1-3 SVC) were led by Emily Robinson with 16 points, followed by Mahaley Farmer with six.

Behind a strong performance from Braiden Collins, the Huntsmen (5-1, 3-1 SVC) beat a talented Piketon team Saturday.

Collins scored 24 points alongside 10 steals, four assists and four rebounds while Shyanne Conley had 10 points. Riley Black scored four points but had a team-high seven rebounds.

For Piketon (3-3, 1-3 SVC), Gracie Lightle paced the way with a season-high 26 points.

The Bearcats (4-4, 3-1 SVC) got a win over Adena on Saturday, evening their overall record.

Lexi Woods led Paint Valley with 21 points, 14 rebounds, four assists and four steals while Kelsey Dunn had eight points and nine rebounds. Jill Bouillion also had a nice night with eight points and nine boards.

For the Warriors (0-6, 0-4 SVC), Jade Johnson scored nine points and Hannah Stark had seven.

SWIMMING

Cavaliers pull out four wins in double dual meet

Chillicothe’s boys and girls swimming teams each picked up two wins Saturday in a double dual against Heath and Big Walnut.

On the girls side, the Cavaliers beat Heath 66-27 before handing Big Walnut a 62-30 loss. As for the boys, Chillicothe won 74-18 over Heath and 60-34 over Big Walnut.

“We got two great wins today to finish a very busy two weeks,” Chillicothe coach Lindsay Burns said. “We are looking forward to two solid weeks of practice.”

WRESTLING

Cavs, PV compete at Washington

WASHINGTON C.H. - Competing in the Washington Court House Pool Tournament, Chillicothe took fifth place out of eight teams Saturday while Paint Valley finished eighth.

For the Cavaliers, individual placers included Caleb Lake (third), McKellan Lee (fourth), Joey Mehelich (sixth), Dominic Nunziato (sixth), Collin Lindsey (second), Nick Erslan (second), Cole Maxson (second) and Nick Colley (fourth).

Both Adrian Salomone (third) and Will Gillingham (first) placed for the Bearcats.

Five SVC teams compete at Vinton County

McCARTHUR - Adena, Southeastern, Unioto, Westfall and Zane Trace all competed in the VFW Post 5299 Invitational Saturday morning at Vinton County High School.

Out of 20 schools, Zane Trace took fourth with 134 team points while Unioto (96) and Westfall (96) finished tied for eighth place. Adena took 14th (53.5) and Southeastern finished 17th (44).

Winning their individual weight classes or finishing second were Unioto's Trevor Lewis (138 pounds, first), Jordan Hoselton (138, second), Adena's Dalton Metzger (152, first), Unioto's Timothy Diamond (195, first), Zane Trace's Austin Carroll (220, first) and Southeastern's Andrew Moore (220, second).
