Man jumped from the first floor to escape fire he set

Kansas City EMS transported one man to an area hospital after a building fire in downtown.Firefighters got the call just before 9 p.m. Friday. When fire crews arrived they saw heavy smoke coming from a vacant two-story building near 19th and Main.Fire crews says a man squatting in the building set a fire on the first floor, then jumped from a ledge to escape the flames when they got out of control.The man suffered non-life threatening injuries.Firefighters and police shut down traffic in the area and the KC Streetcar suspended service as crews battled the blaze.
