Man accused of calling in fake abduction charged
A Milwaukee man has been charged after telling police his daughter was in a stolen car when she was actually safe at school.
According to the criminal complaint, James Murdock, 26, told police Tuesday that he had borrowed a white 2015 Hyundai Accent from a friend a day earlier and parked the vehicle outside his home at 2521 W. Becher St.
He said he went out to warm up the car and then put his daughter in the car. Murdock said he went back inside, leaving her in the unlocked car.
He said when he came back out, there was a man in the car, and the man drove away.
Milwaukee police deployed 42 squad cars and 46 officers.
Later in the day, Murdock admitted that the girl was actually in school and that he had lied about her being in the car in order to get something done about the stolen car.
He is charged with obstructing an officer.
