Following the successful launch of the Amazon Echo, it really wasn’t surprising to see many companies follow suit with their own offerings, like the Google Home and the Apple HomePod. It also did not come as a surprise to learn that Samsung might have something up their sleeves as well.
However despite hearing about the speakers for a while now, there is still no specific release date in sight or an official announcement, but according to a report from Bloomberg, apparently Samsung is targeting the first half of 2018 to launch the device. Details are scarce, but for the most part it sounds like it’ll be like most smart speakers where it will feature a built-in digital assistant (presumably Bixby) that can help users control their connected devices, like lights and locks.
The report is also claiming that the device will have an emphasis on audio quality, which we suppose is largely thanks to Samsung’s acquisition of Harman International. We have no idea what the speaker might look like, but Samsung has launched speaker products in the past, so perhaps those could be used as a frame of reference.
In any case we’ll have to wait and see what Samsung might have planned for us. Perhaps the announcement of the speaker could be made alongside the upcoming Galaxy S9.
