UC Santa Cruz has hired Dino Pollack as its Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and Eligibility, the university announced Tuesday. Pollack replaces Collin Pregliasco, who served both compliance and sports information director before leaving for Consumnes River College in January.

Pollack began his duties with the Slugs on Dec. 7, giving him just two weeks with interim A.D. Greg Warzecka. Warzecka was brought in last August to stabilize an athletic department left spinning when two popular coaches were unexpectedly dismissed and another resigned two months earlier. His contract is set to expire at the end of the week.

The search for a new A.D. “is in its final leg”, according to Embele Awipi, UCSC’s interim sports information director. Dustin Smucker will take over Warzecka’s duties as head of the Office of Physical Education, Recreation and Sports, Awipi said.

Pollack joins UCSC after working in the NCAA national office, where he served as an associate director in the Office of the Committees on Infractions since 2015. He has experience in writing infraction decisions in all three NCAA divisions and has extensively reviewed infractions cases and compliance reports from NCAA institutions.

Prior to joining the NCAA National Office, Pollock, who has a Juris Doctor degree from Valparaiso University School of Law, worked in the Indiana Attorney General’s office on civil litigation matters, including state regulatory laws, employment discrimination, whistleblower lawsuits, contract disputes and constitutionality of state statutes.

Pollock, a former University of Illinois football player, earned his bachelor’s degree in political science and master’s degree in sports administration at that school.

“We are convinced Dino will make significant contributions to the organization and procedural operations of the intercollegiate compliance and eligibility processes for student-athletes and coaches at UCSC,” Warzecka said in a press release.
