Kentucky beats Greater Louisville in Best of the Bluegrass all-star football game

Lexington Christian Academy’s Dillon Wheatley and Ryle’s Jake Chisholm both rushed for touchdowns to lead the Kentucky squad to a 17-3 victory over the Greater Louisville team on Sunday in the Battle of the Bluegrass all-star football game at Elizabethtown High School.

The game matched some of Kentucky’s top high school players in the Class of 2017.

Chisholm’s 6-yard touchdown run gave the Kentucky squad a 7-0 lead with 7:22 left in the first quarter. Wheatley’s 2-yard scoring run made it 14-3 with 29 seconds left in the first half.

Manual’s Nick Kopp nailed a 26-yard field goal for Greater Louisville’s only points.

Greater Louisville still leads the series 5-3.

Postgame awards went to Wheatley (Kentucky Offensive Player of the Game), Somerset’s Collin Hartmann (Kentucky Defensive Player of the Game), Boyle County’s Mitchell Paycheck (Kentucky MVP), Pleasure Ridge Park’s Shannon Bishop (Greater Louisville Offensive Player of the Game), Male’s Bryan Dickerson (Greater Louisville Defensive Player of the Game) and Trinity’s Cody Auxier (Greater Louisville MVP).

The Greater Louisville team managed just 73 yards of offense, including minus-38 on the ground. South Oldham quarterback Drew Zaubi completed 7 of 20 passes for 93 yards with one interception. Kentucky Country Day’s Josh Lifson had three catches for 33 yards. Auxier finished with 12 tackles (eight solo) and four tackles for loss.

Christian County quarterback Kolbe Langhi completed 10 of 16 passes for 141 yards to lead the Kentucky squad. Elizabethtown’s Jay Becherer had five catches for 79 yards.
