Friday’s prep basketball scores, recaps

Eight local prep basketball teams stayed undefeated with wins Friday.

In girls action, Snohomish (4-0) beat Mount Spokane 48-36; Lake Stevens (4-0) defeated Kamiak 64-44; and Cedarcrest (5-0) knocked off South Whidbey 47-13.

On the boys’ side, Edmonds-Woodway (4-0) topped 76-65; Jackson (4-0) beat Mount Vernon 56-48; Monroe (4-0) defeated Mariner 60-44; King’s (4-0) thumped Granite Falls 73-32; and South Whidbey (4-0) edged Cedarcrest 60-56.

The Glacier Peak boys fell from the unbeaten ranks, losing to Union 66-57 to drop to 3-1.

BOYS

Jackson 56, Mount Vernon 48

Christian Liddell and Ben Olesen combined for 35 points as Jackson picked up a road win over Mount Vernon to open Wesco 4A play.

The Timberwolves (4-0 overall, 1-0 Wesco 4A) started strong and compiled a 13-point lead going into halftime. Carlos Garcia led the Bulldogs (0-4, 0-1) with a game-high 22 points.

Monroe 60, Mariner 44

Monroe’s Colby Kyle finished with 24 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks as the host Bearcats opened Wesco 4A play with a win over Mariner.

Taylor Sturgeon added 18 points and Spencer Davidson scored 13 for Monroe (4-0 overall, 1-0 conference).

Tony MacArthur led the Maruaders (2-3, 0-1) with 12 points.

Kamiak 71, Lake Stevens 55

Sharpshooters Carson Tuttle of Kamiak and Ryder Kavanagh of Lake Stevens nearly matched each other bucket-for-bucket, but it was a big third quarter from Tuttle’s Knights that allowed them to separate from the visiting Vikings and emerge with a Wesco 4A victory.

Kamiak carried a 28-24 lead into halftime, but outscored the Vikings 29-13 in the decisive third period. Tuttle finished with 27 points and drained five 3-pointers. Conner Fitzpatrick added 15 points and Danny Sharpe chipped in with 12 for Kamiak (1-2 overall, 1-0 conference).

Kavanagh made six 3s and led all scorers with 28 points. Andrew Franco scored 10 points for the Vikings (0-3, 0-1).

South Whidbey 60, Cedarcrest 56

Down by eight points in the fourth quarter, South Whidbey outscored Cedarcrest 18-6 in the final period for a come-from-behind victory at home to stay unbeaten.

The trio of Carson Wrightson, Kody Newman and Lewis Pope combined for 49 of 60 points for the Falcons (4-0 overall, 2-0 Cascade Conference), scoring 18, 17 and 14 points, respectively.

Chris Busch led the Red Wolves (1-3, 1-1) with a game-high 19 points.

King’s 73, Granite Falls 32 (statistics not reported)

Cedar Park Christian (Bothell) 63, Sultan 56 (OT)

George Reidy scored 34 points to help Cedar Park Christian (Bothell) to an overtime win over host Sultan.

The Turks’ Ben Biddle scored 22 points, including a game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer to send the game to overtime.

The Eagles improved to 3-2 (1-1 Cascade Conference) with the win. Sultan dropped to 0-5 (0-2).

Grace Academy at Shoreline Christian (score not reported)

Darrington 55, Lopez 38

Darrington dominated in the second quarter, outscoring Lopez 21-6, as the Loggers picked up their first win of the season with a road victory over the Lobos.

Alex McConnaughy scored 16 points and Justin Draper added 14 for Darrington (1-2).

Lakewood 90, Orcas Island 52

Lakewood placed five scorers in double figures, led by Adam Duran’s 14 points, in a non-conference win over host Orcas Island.

Lakewood improved to 4-0 with the victory.

Everett 61, Ferndale 52

Bogdan Fesiienko led a quartet of Everett scorers in double figures with 14 points and the host Seagulls played lockdown defense late to close out a non-conference victory over the Golden Eagles.

It was the first win of the season for Everett, which improved to 1-4.

Wes Erickson chipped in 12 points for the Seagulls, and Preston Campbell and Elijah Ross-Rutter each scored 11 points.

Sedro-Woolley 70, Oak Harbor 41

Haven Brown led Oak Harbor with nine points in the non-conference defeat, and the visiting Wildcats fell to 0-4 on the season.

Keenan Hofstad scored 23 points to lead Sedro-Woolley.

Edmonds-Woodway 76, Meadowdale 65

All eight Edmonds-Woodway players that the saw the court scored as the Warriors knocked off Meadowdale to stay unbeaten.

Mutdung Bol’s 15 points led a quartet of Edmonds-Woodway (4-0) players in double figures. Ezekiel Thomas tallied 14 points, Kameron Eck had 13 and Michael Epoch added 10.

Daniel Barhoum led the Mavericks (1-2) with a game-high 24 points.

Shorecrest 57, Skyline 36

Philip Pepple scored 19 points and Shorecrest rebounded from a sluggish first quarter to cruise to 21-point road win over Skyline.

Antonio Stillwell added 14 points for the Scots (3-1).

Union 66, Glacier Peak 57

Evan Mannes scored 17 points and Bobby Martin added 16, but Union’s offense came alive in the fourth quarter, as the host Grizzlies fell in a non-league contest.

Glacier Peak (3-1) held the visitors to 37 points through three periods, but the Titans (3-1) broke through with 29 in the fourth quarter.

Tyler Combs scored 22 points to lead Union.

Squalicum 63, Stanwood 56

Matt Vail scored a team-high 19 points, but Stanwood suffered a non-conference loss to host Squalicum.

Mitch Jones chipped in 15 for the Spartans (2-2).

Squalicum was led by Kendall Engelhart’s 29 points.

Glacier Peak 53, Cascade 18

Abbie Juozapaitis, Alexyss Newman and Makayla Guerra all scored in double figures to lead visiting Glacier Peak to a Wesco 4A win over Cascade.

Juozapaitis scored a game-high 15 points, Guerra recorded 12 and Newman added 10 points for the Grizzlies (2-1, 1-0 Wesco 4A). The Bruins (1-4, 0-1) were led by Rose Gonzalez’s six points.

Kylee Griffen scored a game-high 20 points to lead Lake Stevens to a Wesco 4A win over visiting Kamiak.

Taylor Smith added 13 points for the Vikings (3-0 overall, 1-0 Wesco 4A).

The Knights (1-3, 0-1) were led by Alex Gallaher’s 11 points.

Mariner 59, Monroe 55

Four Mariner players accounted for 56 of the host Maruaders’ 59 points in its Wesco 4A win over Monroe.

Denisa Grebovic led Mariner (3-1 overall, 1-0 conference) with 17 points, while Taliyah Clark, Hannah Hezekiah and Nia Hawkins each scored 13 points.

Monique Fierke had a game-high 26 points and Elizabeth Sundet added 13 for the Bearcats (1-3, 0-1).

King’s 77, Granite Falls 24

Dominique Kirton, Rachel Phelan and Claire Gallagher combined for 59 points to lead visiting King’s to a 53-point victory in its first Cascade Conference game of the season.

The Knights (2-1 overall, 1-0 Cascade Conference) held the Tigers to just eight points in the second half, including a scoreless fourth quarter.

Alex Chavez led Granite Falls (1-3, 1-1) with six points.

Cedar Park Christian (Bothell) 49, Sultan 23

Irena Korolenko scored 31 points to lead Cedar Park Christian past host Sultan in a Cascade Conference game.

Sela Flynn added 10 points for the Eagles (3-2 overall, 1-1 conference).

Lily Morgan made three 3-pointers and finished with 11 points for the Turks (0-5, 0-2).

Edmonds-Woodway 58, Meadowdale 25

Ingrid Fosberg scored 14 points, Edmonds-Woodway locked down on defense and the host Warriors cruised to a 33-point victory over Meadowdale.

Adrienne Poling added 11 points for the Warriors (3-1), who didn’t allow more than eight points in a single quarter.

The Mavericks (1-4) were led by Fatoumata Jaiteh’s eight points.

Morgan Carter scored a team-high seven points for Everett, but the Seagulls suffered a non-conference loss to host Ferndale.

All eight Everett players who saw court time scored.

Stanwood’s Kaitlin Larson scored 19 points as the Spartans held off visiting Lynden to win the non-conference game.

Ashley Alter added 15 points for Stanwood (3-1).

Arlington ran into a strong Lynden Christian team and suffered a non-conference home loss.

Hailey Hiatt led the Eagles (2-3) with 12 points, and Sierra Scheppele scored eight points.

Sam VanLoo and Avery Dykstra each had 16 points for the Lyncs.

Shorecrest 61, Shorewood 49

Shorecrest started out hot, outscoring Shorewood 43-16 in the first half, and the Scots beat the cross-town rival Thunderbirds at home.

Kira Wood led Shorecrest (2-2) with 18 points and Audrey Dietz added 10.

Molly Stamey and Davi Borromeo combined for 33 points, scoring 17 and 16, respectively, for Shorewood (2-2).

Kyra Beckman scored 26 points to lead Snohomish to a non-conference home victory over Mount Spokane.

The Panthers (4-0) trailed by three at halftime but outscored their opponent 29-14 in the second half to stay undefeated.
