2017 All-Area Girls High School Soccer Teams

The Herald’s Player of Year, Jadyn Edwards of Jackson, highlights the first team

PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Jadyn Edwards

Forward, Jackson, sr.

Edwards tallied 18 goals and 17 assists. She was a first-team All-Wesco 4A selection. “She’s been an integral part of (our success),” Timberwolves coach Sarah Smart said. “She’s a force on the field in many avenues.”

COACH OF THE YEAR

Bill LeCompte

Edmonds-Woodway

LeCompte led the Warriors to a 13-4-3 record, a third-place finish in Wesco 3A and a berth in the 3A state tournament quarterfinal round.

FIRST TEAM

Jadyn Edwards

Forward, Jackson, sr.

Katie Stella

Forward, King’s, sr.

Stella posted 35 goals and 14 assists. She was named the Cascade Conference’s Offensive Player of the Year and helped the Knights win the Class 1A state title.

Lexie Klaudt

Forward, Archbishop Murphy, jr.

Klaudt tallied 25 goals and nine assists. She was selected to the All-Cascade Conference first team. “I truly believe she is one of the best (players) in the area,” Wildcats coach Michael Bartley said.

Espy Sanchez

Forward, Stanwood, sr.

Sanchez registered 14 goals and six assists. She was a first-team All-Wesco 3A pick.

Hunter Beirne

Midfielder, Kamiak, jr.

Beirne tallied 16 goals and five assists. She was a first-team All-Wesco 4A selection. “She had a fantastic year, with a mission to get involved in the offense as the attacking center mid,” Knights coach Beth Stewart said.

Olivia Lee

Midfielder, Marysville Pilchuck, sr.

Lee tallied 12 goals and 11 assists. She was named to the All-Wesco 3A first team. “She dictated to the other team when she wanted to,” Tomahawks coach Paul Bartley said. “She brings the whole package — she can head the ball, she can defend, she can attack, she can pass. She’s everything you want in a player. She’s the Energizer Bunny.”

Chase Sprink

Midfielder, Glacier Peak, jr.

Sprink recorded 13 goals and six assists. She was a first-team All-Wesco 4A selection.

Molly Carden

Defender, Edmonds-Woodway, sr.

Carden posted three goals and six assists. She was a first-team All-Wesco 3A selection. “Molly was a great outside back and team captain,” Warriors coach Bill LeCompte said. “(She was) a positive player every day.”

Kiah Dayton

Defender, Glacier Peak, sr.

Dayton was selected to the All-Wesco 4A first team. “She led our defense and helped in our eight shutouts, and herself scored four goals from free kicks and set pieces when she came forward,” Grizzlies coach Melinda Torre said. “She always marked the best player on each of the teams and was important in our success.”

Sarah Nehring

Defender, Kamiak, sr.

Nehring registered four goals and one assist. She was a first-team All-Wesco 4A selection. “(She was the) leader of our defense,” Knights coach Beth Stewart said. “(She) was a key part of our 10 shutouts this season.”

Kayleigh Sedlacek

Goalkeeper, Jackson, sr.

Sedlacek was a first-team All-Wesco 4A pick.

SECOND TEAM

Kailin Wiley

Forward, Kamiak, sr.

Wiley tallied 13 goals and eight assists. She was a first-team All-Wesco 4A pick. “(She) spent a lot of time trying to shake the defenders man-marking her,” Knights coach Beth Stewart said.

Cassidy O’Dell

Forward, Lynnwood, sr.

O’Dell recorded 15 goals and six assists, “making her directly responsible for 21 of our team’s 29 goals,” Royals coach Mark McAlexander said. “She was the WIAA Player of the Week for her back-to-back hat tricks against Arlington and Meadowdale. She was voted (team) most valuable player by her teammates.”

Julia Hart

Forward, Mountlake Terrace, sr.

Hart was a first-team All-Wesco 3A selection.

Hayli Huhta

Midfielder, Marysville Getchell, sr.

Huhta tallied six goals and seven assists. She was a first-team All-Wesco 3A selection. “She didn’t worry about her own accolades,” Chargers coach Kyle Suits said. “She didn’t worry about scoring goals. She did whatever it took to help the team. What we needed was what she was willing to provide.”

Spencer Wirkkala

Midfielder, Granite Falls, sr.

Wirkkala recorded five goals and seven assists. She was named the Cascade Conference’s Defensive Player of the Year. “She played a lot more defense for us this year compared to last year,” Tigers coach Lowell Zenk said. “She is why we had our lowest goals-against season in over nine years and the most shutouts in over nine years.”

Kimber Thomas

Midfielder, Glacier Peak, sr.

Thomas registered 11 goals and three assists. She was a first-team All-Wesco 4A pick.

Madison Hinkel

Midfielder, Lynnwood, jr.

Hinkel tallied six goals and 12 assists. She was selected to the All-Wesco 3A team. “Her 12 assists in 13 games (she missed a few games) broke the school record, and I don’t think anyone else in Wesco came even close to her in assists,” Royals coach Mark McAlexander said.

Lexi Ramirez

Defender, Lake Stevens, sr.

Ramirez had four goals and four assists. She was a first-team All-Wesco 4A pick. “She also led a defense that that had a 0.52 goals against average with a sophomore keeper. She was our best all-around player by a long shot.”

Ava Schweiger

Defender, Stanwood, sr.

Schweiger tallied four goals and three assists. She was a first-team All-Wesco 3A pick.

Sydney Brandt

Defender, Shorecrest, sr.

Brandt was picked to the All-Wesco 3A first team. “Sydney was our most valuable player,” Scots coach Mindy Dalziel said.

Hannah Hicks

Goalkeeper, Edmonds-Woodway, sr.

Hicks recorded 11 shutouts, 148 saves and a 0.65 goals-against average. She was a second-team All-Wesco 3A selection. “She’s a great person and one of (the best), if not the best, goalkeepers to come through our school and area,” Warriors coach Bill LeCompte said.
