Cinnamon is a brown Pit Bull terrier who is estimated to be about seven years old. She was surrendered to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Control soon after she gave birth to a litter of puppies and was absolutely miserable as a result.

Visitors and volunteers at the shelter could not help but be brokenhearted at the sight of Cinnamon’s sad face, her eyes begging for someone to change her life. And luckily for her, her time at the shelter was not long, and she was adopted by a family!

Cinnamon is all smiles now with her loving forever family!

Although it appears Cinnamon is crying tears in the above video, please note that if your dog regularly has tears in his or her eyes, it is likely because of another issue like allergies or an infection, which may need to be addressed by a veterinarian.

Cinnamon’s story is a prime example of just how valuable adoption is. Sadly, stories like hers are not uncommon. Millions of animals enter U.S. shelters every year, and every single day, 5,500 of them are euthanized, often for no reason other than there is not enough space to keep them all.

There is much you can do to help keep the euthanasia rate down. Adoption and fostering are wonderful ways to directly save animals’ lives while also enriching your own. To find out more about fostering animals, check this out. Spaying and neutering also greatly help keep the rate of unwanted pets down, as baby animals who are too young to be adopted or require special care are often immediately euthanized at shelters, especially when no foster homes are readily available. Participating in trap-neuter-release (TNR) programs will help control stray cat populations. And of course, donating to and volunteering your time at shelters and rescues also helps contribute to the greater cause.

Don’t forget to share this heartwarming story with your family and friends as a reminder of why adoption is so important!
