Police Calls | Man reports attempted burglary at gunpoint

100 block of Western Avenue, Mansfield - A man reported Thursday morning an unknown man forced entry into his residence through a first-floor rear window, came into his bedroom, brandished a black pistol and demanded money three times. After the third attempt, the man reported the unknown man fled out the front door and ran west toward Middle Park. The man reported the unknown man was about 6 feet tall and 180 pounds, wearing a hooded jacket and a light-colored bandana covering his face. An officer found a rear first-floor window was broken, but according to a police report, it was broken from the inside out, and nothing in front of the window was disturbed.

500 block of Bissman Court, Mansfield - Officers with the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested a 34-year-old man Thursday morning on a felony warrant out of the Mansfield Police Department. The man remains in the county jail on a second-degree felony charge of aggravated arson.

First block of North Home Road, Mansfield - A man reported Thursday morning he suspects his 22-year-old granddaughter of using his bank card without his permission after finding $1,800 in transactions on the card. The man said his granddaughter has been living with him the last few months, and he suspects she took the card while he was sleeping. When he confronted her about it, she denied the accusation and moved to Columbus. Officers were unable to contact the woman.

Family Dollar, 1314 Park Avenue West, Mansfield - An employee reported Thursday morning a 46-year-old man stole unknown items before fleeing in a vehicle with a 44-year-old man. The employee reported she tried following the 46-year-old through the store, as she suspected he was stealing, but the 44-year-old man kept asking her for assistance to distract her. An officer stopped the men a short time later. A search of the vehicle turned up a pack of washcloths, which the employee reported were missing from the store inventory. The 46-year-old man, who also was wanted on warrants, was arrested on a theft charge. The second man was issued a complicity charge, advised of his court date and released.

Mansfield - A 55-year-old man was arrested Thursday morning on domestic violence and drug paraphernalia charges. During a probation home check for the man, probation officers found a marijuana grinder in the man's coat, which he admitted was his. The probation officers reported the man was getting into arguments with a woman at the residence. The woman said she feels unsafe around the man, "believing he is going to kill her," according to a police report. The woman reported the man threatened her and tried to attack her while she was sitting on a couch Thursday. The woman said he pulled her hair and knocked her glasses off. The woman had no visible injuries. The man denied assaulting or threatening her. The woman completed a domestic violence affidavit against the man, who was taken to the county jail.

100 block of Buckingham Avenue, Mansfield - A man reported Thursday morning a bag of tools stolen. The man reported another man hired him to perform a vehicle repair. The two got in an argument Tuesday, and the man left his bag of tools in the back of the vehicle. When he returned Wednesday, the tools were missing from the unlocked vehicle, and the man who hired him wouldn't answer the door. Officers were unable to contact the man.

400 block of Spring Street, Mansfield - A woman reported Thursday morning one of the tires on her vehicle was slashed.

Save A Lot, 1270 Lexington Avenue - Two people reportedly left the store without paying for merchandise Thursday. 

First block of Helen Avenue, Mansfield - Police on Thursday arrested a 26-year-old man on a warrant as well as for possession of drug paraphernalia and menacing after the man reportedly made threats against a dog and a human. 

Mansfield Police Department, 30 N. Diamond St. - A vehicle that had been reported stolen out of Franklin County was recovered Thursday. 

100 block of Home Avenue, Mansfield - A man reported his 11-year-old grandson was walking home from the bus stop when three males in black bandannas pulled up next to him, called him racial names, pointed a gun at him and threw up gang signs Thursday. 

Stark and McPherson streets, Mansfield - A 34-year-old man was arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence Thursday after he was found passed out in the driver's seat of a vehicle following a crash at the intersection. 

Mansfield - A 70-year-old female reported Thursday she was contacted by a man who claimed he represented Publisher's Clearing House and said she had won $20,000,000. The man told the victim to wire $300 to a man in Newark, which she did. 

Mansfield - A 25-year-old woman reported her 28-year-old ex-boyfriend assaulted her. She had a bloody nose and several bruises. The woman told police the man pulled her by the hair and strangled her, causing her to lose consciousness. 

100 block of Sturges Avenue, Mansfield - A 25-year-old male was arrested for drunkenness Thursday.
