"Mike & Mike" Finale Takes Look Back At Show; Skipper Among Guests

ESPN Radio’s “Mike & Mike” is airing its final episode today, with Mike Greenberg noting he and co-host Mike Golic have done about 14,000 hours on the air. Greenberg said, “We have got four left to do, and we will make them count.” Greenberg said of the last show, “We’ve got a lot of fun to be had, we’ve got a lot of people to say thank you to and we will certainly do that. A lot of nice things are being said about us, which we’re not always accustomed to.” Golic noted, “That’s why I try and get to the bad stuff that’s being said about us. It makes me feel more at home, quite honestly.” They then transitioned into talking about the morning’s top stories.

The show featured clips from previous episodes and anecdotes from the early years of the show, including a discussion how they could not get anybody to bring them copies of USA Today in the mornings before going on the air at 6:00am ET. Golic: “I knew it was going to be a tough fight when I went to the suits and I said, ‘We have a problem,’ and he said, ‘Who are you?’” The show aired video clips and tweets of celebs and sports personalities wishing the pair well and congratulating them on their long on-air run, as well as a large cake decorated to read “Mike & Mike.” The hashtag #MMSayThanks has been among the top trending topics on Twitter.

ESPN President John Skipper is slated to make an in-studio appearance at 9:30am ET to pay tribute. Longtime guests Buster Olney, Frank Caliendo and Bill Curry also said their goodbyes to the duo (THE DAILY).

THE BIG LEAD goes with the headline: "'Mike & Mike' Stood the Test of Time By Using a Timeless Formula"
