Chuck Weber, Former Eagles Linebacker And Legendary West Chester Grad, Passes Away

Chuck Weber, a former linebacker for the Philadelphia Eagles and West Chester University, has passed away.

WEST CHESTER, PA — Chuck Weber, a former linebacker for the Philadelphia Eagles and West Chester University, has passed away, the university confirmed on Tuesday. He was 87.

While at West Chester, Weber was named a first-team All-American in 1952, leading the Golden Rams to a 7-0 season. The university notes that Weber also helped the Golden Rams to a win in the Pretzel Bowl over Albright College in 1951, an 8-2 year.

Weber played in the NFL for seven years, including his final three in Philadelphia, helping them to the 1960 NFL Championship.

He was also an NFL coach for 21 years with a number of teams, including Boston Patriots (1964-67), San Diego Chargers (1968-69), Cincinnati Bengals (1970-75), St. Louis Cardinals (1976-77), Cleveland Browns (1978-79), Baltimore Colts (1980-81), and the San Diego Chargers (1982-85), according to the Eagles.

Both West Chester and the Eagles released statements of mourning in the wake of Weber's death.

According to the university, Weber is survived by his four sons, Charlie, Wayne, Bruce, and Scott; one daughter, Tracey; 13 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held in Poway, California, on Sunday, West Chester said.
