The non-profit sustainable energy advocate eMERGE Guelph will host what it is calling Guelph's first ever electric car show.

It takes place at Old Quebec Street Shoppes on Oct. 27 and 28.

"Climate change is very real and electric cars can be a big part of the solution," said Steve Yessie, program manager at eMERGE, in a news release.

“It's a complex problem, but that doesn't mean the solutions can’t be fun. These cars are exiting pieces of technology, and even more fun to drive."

The release said that eMERGE sees the electric car show is about cutting our reliance on fossil fuels and getting Guelph to 100 per cent Renewable Energy by 2050.

There will be 10 different electric vehicles on display at the show and on Oct. 28 there will 60 free test drives made available.

Organizations on hand to answer questions include Plug ‘N Drive, the Electric Vehicle Society and the Waterloo Region Electric Vehicle Association.

“No more oil changes, cheaper upkeep, and leaving your house each day with a ‘full tank’ are just a few reasons more people are switching to EVs,” said Yessie.
