Nixa Public Schools was the target of a threat Friday evening.

After investigating the situation this evening, Nixa School Police found no validity to the threat, according to Nixa schools spokesman Zac Rantz.

At least three other southwest Missouri high schools have received similar threats in the past two weeks, including Conway High in Laclede County and Springfield's Glendale and Kickapoo.

Rantz said the district became aware at 6 p.m. Friday that a screenshot of a Snapchat message was circulating on social media.

He said the message including a warning about plans to shoot up the high school.

"We don't believe it to be credible," he said.

The district is working closely with the Nixa Police Department, which is trying to identify the author of the message and if others were involved.

Anyone with information regarding the message is asked to contact the Nixa police.

Rantz said the district will communicate any updates to parents.
