Willard survives late scare and other headlines from playoffs' opening round

District playoffs started all across Missouri on Friday night.

While some teams survived to play another game, many seniors played their last games.

Here are some headlines from the opening round of the playoffs:

Willard survives Parkview scare

Despite going into the opening night of the district playoffs with a 1-8 record, the Vikings came in thinking they could beat Willard.

In a wild game that came down to the last play, the Tigers survived with a 49-41 win over the Vikings.

Parkview forced and recovered a fumble with 43 seconds left on the clock and had a chance to drive down the field to force overtime.

With two seconds left in the game and having to go 60 yards in one play, a deep ball fell incomplete.

Blake Delacruz carried the Vikings on the night by rushing for 176 yards and four touchdowns.

The star running back contributed to a seesaw battle as the Vikings and Tigers exchanged touchdowns for their combined first eight scores.

Willard looked to have broken away late when they scored 21 unanswered points to start the second half.

Parkview didn't quit, though, as Delacruz scored a touchdown with 1:11 left to bring the game within eight.

Willard running back Garrett Rice scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns to keep the Tigers ahead.

The Tigers will travel to Nixa next week.

Springfield Catholic starts revenge tour with win

Just two seasons ago, Osage ended Catholic's season in a 35-0 shutout.

Catholic got its revenge Friday night.

Trailing 14-13 early in the third quarter, Catholic quarterback Tyson Riley responded by scoring two touchdowns in just over a minute.

The star quarterback broke runs of 69 and 30 to give Catholic the lead.

Catholic ran away with the game in a 33-21 win.

Riley ended the game with 176 yards and four touchdowns.

The team ended with 336 yards off 61 carries.

Next week, Catholic will take on Eldon, who ended their season last year in a 32-0 shutout.

Hillcrest's season ends at Camdenton

Hillcrest had plenty of highlights from the regular season, and that's what the Hornets will be looking back on as their season came to an end Friday.

Hillcrest fell to Camdenton 39-12.

Trailing 23-0 at the half, the Hornets got on the board thanks to touchdowns from Josh Powell and Dion Davis.

Hillcrest ends the season having swept the city during the regular season and with a record of 5-5.

Ozark sets up rematch with Glendale

In a night of sweet revenge across the state, Ozark will be looking to next week to get theirs.

The Tigers went into the half leading 13-0, then exploded in the second half to defeat Waynesville 43-14 and advance to the next round.

With the win, the Tigers will travel to Glendale to take on the Falcons.

Glendale ended Ozark's season last year in the second round, when the Alex Huston-led offense won 85-44.
