Motor vehicle accidents: Roadside worker struck by vehicle

Individuals who perform roadside work may face a multitude of hazards while on the job. With less in the way of protective barriers to protect against collision, motor vehicle accidents that occur under similar circumstances can be devastating. A mower for the West Virginia state Division of Highways recently suffered a serious head injury after he was struck by another vehicle.

According to reports, the incident occurred just before 10:30 a.m. on a recent Thursday. The worker was traveling on the shoulder of the interstate when he or she was suddenly struck by another vehicle. The vehicle erupted in flames shortly after the collision, and two of the individuals within it were pronounced dead. The worker was reportedly conscious following the incident, but suffered a serious head injury in the process and was rushed to a medical facility.

The area in which the incident occurred was closed while an investigation into the incident was conducted. However, it is unclear as to what might have caused the vehicle to travel onto the shoulder and strike the worker. Working alongside the interstate can be dangerous, and if the drivers of other vehicles fail to notice roadside workers and stray off course, the result can be catastrophic.

Individuals who suffer serious head injuries in motor vehicle accidents may face numerous hardships in life moving forward. If another party appears to have been at fault in the collision, the victim may wish to pursue restitution, but the process can be stressful and daunting. When facing a similar situation, one could speak with an attorney in West Virginia for assistance in pursuing the full amount of compensation he or she is entitled through a personal injury claim against the party deemed at fault.
