It didn’t take long for the North Creek volleyball team to become a factor in the KingCo 4A postseason race. The Jaguars (7-5 overall, 3-2 conference), in their first year of existence, are in third place, well on their way to a playoff berth.
“In terms of wins and losses, our goal was to make the playoffs,” North Creek coach Richard Abiador said. “The girls have had to deal with new (teammates) and a new coach and a new school — a lot of new things. As a first-year coach of a brand-new program, I wanted to instill a winning (culture). We don’t have any seniors, but we have a lot of young talent.”
The Jaguars have been led by right-side hitter Gabby Kepley, libero Alisa Kim and middle blocker Allison Wilks.
“Gabby’s amazing. She gives opposing hitters a challenge in hitting past her block, and when she’s hitting, she forces other teams to slow her down on the right side,” Abiador said. “Elissa is a very good libero. She commands the backcourt and is a solid passer and plays great defense. And Allison has been super as a sophomore.”
