ROSE McGowan has berated James Corden for joking about sex allegations against Harvey Weinstein in scathing rant.

The Brit comedian has since apologised for the ill-advised gags made while hosting the AmfAR Gala in Los Angeles, saying he was "truly sorry" to anyone offended by his comments.

In a Twitter apology, he wrote: "To be clear, sexual assault is no laughing matter. I was not trying to make light of Harvey’s inexcusable behavior, but to shame him, the abuser, not his victims. I am truly sorry for anyone offended, that was never my intention."

He had been called out by Charmed actress McGowan – who was one of the women to claim the top producer raped her – with the star taking to Twitter to vent: "YOU MOTHERF****** PIGLET."

In a series of tweets she continued: “1) James Corden is a close friend of [Harvey Weinstein's]

“2) Hearing the audience’s vile roars & laughs show EXACTLY what kind of HOLLYWOOD you really are.

“3) @CBS DONATE TO @ELAWC OR YOU TOO SUPPORT RAPE CULTURE.”

Footage of the glitzy awards ceremony shows Corden saying: “It’s a beautiful night here in LA – so beautiful, Harvey Weinstein has already asked 'tonight' up to his hotel to give him a massage.”

The joke was a reference to claims made by several female celebs against the Hollywood producer, who they said sexually harassed them.

The audience can be heard groaning uncomfortably after the joke.

But Corden ploughs ahead regardless, urging those present to “leave now” if they didn’t find it funny.

Corden continued: “It has been weird this week though, watching Harvey Weinstein in hot water.

“Ask any of the women who watched him take a bath.”

The comic was referring to claims made by actress Ashley Judd, who said Weinstein begged her to watch him shower.

As cringe-worthy footage shows, Corden jokes about claims made by TV anchor Lauren Sivan, 39, who said the Hollywood bigwig pleasured himself into a plant pot in front of her.

Corden said: “Harvey Weinstein wanted to come tonight, but sadly he’ll settle for whatever potted plant is closest.”

Viewers took to Twitter to blast the comic after the performance.

One wrote: “James Corden's ‘joke’ is part of the problem, no offence.”

Another tweeted: “James Corden's jokes weren't 'too soon,' they should've never happened in the first place. Nor should they EVER. It's not a joke.”

And one Brit said: “Sorry America no you can't give James Corden back he's yours now.”
