Rick and Morty fans learn the truth about Mr. Poopybutthole in a pitch for charity

Rick and Morty’s co-creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland have created an entirely new scene for the show ... kind of.

In a video for their charity campaign with Omaze, a non-profit organization that hosts lotteries for fans to spend time with different celebrities, Harmon and Roiland provide commentary over an original scene based on the show. The idea is to illustrate the type of commentary that the lottery winner will be able to help Roiland and Harmon record for an episode from the show’s most recent season.

The result is a pretty funny scene involving Rick, Morty and Mr. Poopybutthole. The scene starts with Morty wanting to drink from Rick’s flask and devolves into chaos from there. Harmon makes a few notable jokes, like “confirming” that Mr. Poopybutthole is a canonical, adult version of Meeseeks.

As part of the campaign, Harmon, Roiland and Omaze are offering the winner a chance to:

  • Join Harmon and Roiland to record DVD commentary for season three
  • Eat nuggets dipped in the world-famous Szechuan sauce
  • Get flown out to LA and put up in a 4-star hotel

Neither Roiland or Harmon acknowledge the Szechuan sauce controversy in the video, but the campaign description does. Rick and Morty came into the spotlight recently after McDonald’s attempted to bring back its limited edition Szechuan sauce after a one-off joke on the show spawned an entire meme. The promotion was largely seen as a failure as fans rallied and protested inside McDonald’s locations when they couldn’t get their hands on packets of the sauce.

Proceeds from the campaign will go to Planned Parenthood. People can enter for a minimum donation of $10. More information about the campaign can be read on the official Omaze page.
