Bob Weinstein accused of sexually harassing female TV producer

Bob Weinstein, right, is now being accused of the behavior that got his brother Harvey, left, fired from the company that bears their name.

Just a few days after coming out hard against older brother Harvey for his "depraved" behavior, Bob Weinstein is being accused of harassing a female TV producer.

In a statement, Spike TV told the Associated Press that the network is investigating allegations against him brought by Amanda Segel, the showrunner on its adaptation of Stephen King's The Mist, which ran for one season this summer. The project was overseen by Dimension Television, part of Bob Weinstein's division of the Weinstein Company.

She says Weinstein, 62, made repeated overtures to her that included invitations to dinner, to his home and to a hotel room during a three-month period in the summer of 2016, according to a story published Tuesday by Variety.

Segel told the magazine that his attempts stopped only after her lawyer, David Fox, told Weinstein Company COO David Glasser that she would quit the series.

Eventually, Fox intervened on her behalf and a deal was struck to keep her on the show and out of the same room as Weinstein.

Segel, whose other credits include Person of Interest and The Good Wife, told Variety, "‘No’ should be enough. After ‘no,’ anybody who has asked you out should just move on. Bob kept referring to me that he wanted to have a friendship. He didn’t want a friendship. He wanted more than that. My hope is that ‘no’ is enough from now on.”

Weinstein's lawyer, Bert Fields, denied the story to USA TODAY in an emailed statement.

"Variety’s story about Bob Weinstein is riddled with false and misleading assertions by Ms. Segel and we have the emails to prove it, but even if you believe what she says, it contains not a hint of any inappropriate touching or even any request for such touching. There is no way in the world that Bob Weinstein is guilty of sexual harassment, and even if you believed what this person asserts, there is no way it would amount to that.”

In an interview published Saturday by The Hollywood Reporter, Weinstein said that he had barely spoken to his older brother, whom he called "indefensible and crazy," in the past five years. "I could not take his cheating, his lying and also his attitude toward everyone," he explained, adding that he hoped Harvey gets "the justice he deserves."

Neither Fox nor representatives for the Weinstein Company responded to USA TODAY's request for comment.
