Just two days after the Motion Picture Academy voted to expel Harvey Weinstein, the Producers Guild of America has voted to begin expulsion proceedings against the embattled movie producer.“This morning, the PGA’s National Board of Directors and Officers decided by unanimous vote to institute termination proceedings concerning Harvey Weinstein’s membership,” PGA Presidents Gary Lucchesi and Lori McCreary said in a statement. “Sexual harassment of any type is completely unacceptable. This is a systemic and pervasive problem requiring immediate industry-wide action.”Weinstein has 15 days to respond to the vote. The Guild will make a final determination regarding Weinstein’s membership on Nov. 6.The 65-year-old has been in the center of a firestorm after allegations of sexual harassment and assault were made public. Last week, Weinstein was fired from the film production company he helped to create. The list of women alleging harassment and assault by Weinstein continues to grow. More than 30 women, including actresses Angelina Jolie, Ashley Judd and Gwyneth Paltrow — have spoken out.Along with the Motion Picture Academy, members of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) voted to revoke Weinstein’s membership with the organization. The PGA also announced that it has created a task force that has been charged with creating solutions to stop sexual harassment in the entertainment industry.
