MGMT tease new track ‘Little Dark Age’

Since songs like ‘Kids‘, ‘Time To Pretend‘ and ‘Electric Feel‘ are still quite ubiquitous, it can be easy to forget that MGMT haven’t actually put out any new music in over four years. They have been hinting at a new release for a good while now, even confirming back in June that their new album was in the process of being mastered, but it is not until this week that they have finally given us some new music – and it’s only 10 seconds at that. With the hash tag #LittleDarkAge and the 10 second snippet of bubbling synths, they have also shared the lyrics for the track ‘Little Dark Age‘, suggesting that this will be the lead single from the album (which is also rumoured to be called Little Dark Age). Check out the clip and the lyrics below.

Lyrics like “Oh, I grieve in stereo/ the stereo sounds strange/ I know that if you hide/ it doesn’t go away,”  seem to further what’s suggested by the title ‘Little Dark Age‘: that this will be a gloomy affair full of dread. Hopefully their musical abilities will still make it float and fizz like their best tracks – we should find out soon enough.
