Here are four local prep events to keep an eye on this week:
1. Volleyball: Kamiak at Lake Stevens, 7 p.m. Tuesday. These are the top two teams in Wesco 4A. The Vikings have won all eight of their matches and have dropped just five sets all season. Two of those lost sets came to the Knights (7-1) in their first matchup on Sept. 14.
2. Girls soccer: Stanwood at Marysville Getchell, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Something has to give in this matchup. The Spartans (5-1-1 Wesco 3A) lead the conference with 28 goals scored, but the Chargers (4-2-1) have allowed just eight goals, the second-fewest in the conference.
3. Girls swimming and diving: Shorewood at Kamiak, 3:15 p.m. Thursday. The Thunderbirds are having a nice season, but they’ll be tested by the Wesco South-leading Knights, who are living up to their lofty expectations so far this season. Swimmer to watch: Kamiak’s Taylor Funk, who won the 200-yard freestyle and 100 backstroke events in the Knights’ win over Meadowdale on Thursday.
4. Volleyball: Snohomish at Everett, 7 p.m. Thursday. After posting a 2-10 record in Wesco 3A play last season, the Seagulls (5-1 conference) are firmly in the mix for a postseason berth this fall. Their improvement will be tested by the Panthers (4-2), who look to rebound from a five-set loss to Stanwood last Wednesday.
