Secrets Your Dentist Wants to Tell You: Part 1

general dentistryGoing to the family dentist is something we have all done for the majority of our lives. But while heading to the dentist twice a year may seem like a great habit (and it is!), did you know that some of your other oral hygiene habits could be all wrong?

It is important we take care of our teeth and not get into a mundane routine of doing the same thing over and over again. So here are some things your dentist wants you to know when it comes to spicing up your oral health routine and how to care for your teeth properly.

    • Your bite may need some work, so don’t be surprised if we recommend braces
About 20% of the population does not have the ideal bite. And this happens for people of all ages, not just teenagers! Adults can need braces as well, so please heed our recommendations to see an orthodontist if need be.

    • Please keep your expectations realistic
In the world of general dentistry, it is common for some patients to go see their dentist and request a celebrity’s specific smile. But this is not always realistic as each face is different and that celebrity may not have the same face and tooth shape that you do. Rather, focus on making your smile the best it can be with dental implants and veneers.

    • Bleeding gums is a severe problem
Sure, if you see if a little bit of blood in the sink after brushing for the first time in a while, this is normal. But consistent bleeding gums is a sign that you could be suffering from periodontal disease, which can lead to tooth loss or receding gums if not treated properly.

  • Dry mouth isn’t normal either
Dry mouth can be a side effect of many medications, but it is bad for your teeth because it causes bacteria to grow even faster. If this is something you suffer from, please let your dentist know so they can give you the right tips on how to protect your teeth from damage.

In our next post, we’ll give you some more secrets from the world of general dentistry!
