As ya'll know, I am a big believer in the power of Retinol. It is literally the #1 proven anti-aging skincare ingredient. People always tell me that I look way younger than my age. I attribute that to my years of dedication to using Retinol and other Vitamin A-based products (both perscription and non-perscription). I always make sure to have a Retinol product in my skincare routine. Over the years, I have tried many different types or Retinol and brands. There really are some great Retinols on the market. Really, there are...so, I was surprised at how much this new Overnight Retinol Repair 1% from Dermalogica really stood out amongst all the other Retinols I have tried! Honestly, this seems like one of the strongest anti-aging treaments that I have used that has not required a perscription. 

My Skin:

Before diving into my review, product details, and impressions...lets chat about my skin type and concerns so that you know my frame of refrence. I have combo skin that is somewhat sensitive. I do not break out often, however, if I am not careful with my skincare choices, I do break out around my t-zone area. While I do not have any major lines or wrinkles yet, fine lines are a concern. They tend to crop up more when my skin gets dehydrated around my eyes and ever-so-slightly around my mouth. I am looking for great anti-aging products that are proven effective. Yet, I want products that do not aggrivate my sensitive skin nor break me out.

Why is the Dermalogica Overnigh Retinol Repair 1% Diffferent (and special!!!)?

There are a few things about the formula that really make this Retinol stand out! First of all, it has a very effective percentage of Retinol. Yet, it does not irritate your skin when you ease into use with the buffer cream. This is genius. Really! As you may know, it can take your skin awhile to get adjusted to Retinol use (especially if you have sensitive skin like me). Even though my skin was already accustomed to another brand's Retinol, I still need to use the buffer cream with this Dermalogica Overnight Retinol Repair 1%. When I first started with it, I used it at about a 50/50 ration of buffer cream to retinol cream. Now I just use a touch of buffer cream and about 90% retinol cream. I just pump out to fingertips and mix together and then apply to my face. You can really customize the product to being exactly what your skin needs when you go slowly like this and gradually adjust the cream to retinol ratio. By doing this, my sensitive skin was happy and not overly irritated by the retinol! Pretty soon, I will be using the Retinol cream on its own. I do wish that the buffer cream came in a little bit of a bigger tube because I am almost out but am still mixing it with the Retinol. 

In addition to being a powerful microencapsulated pure Retinol anti-aging cream, the Dermalogica on the Overnight Retinol Repair 1% is also an antioxidant Vitamin C Cream!!! I love that they included the powerful and effective Vitamin C into this cream. I love this 2-in-1 idea so that I do not have to layer an additional antioxidant product when I use this. Sure, Retinol is the best and most proven anti-aging ingredient...but we also need antioxidants in our skincare on a daily basis. This product has both. Yay!!! 

In addition to Retinol and Vitamin C, the formula also contains skin-loving ingredients like peptides, Squalane, and active polysaccharides to hydrate skin, prevent water loss, and to soften fine lines. 

Tips and Suggestions:

If you are brand new to Retinol. Perhaps start with Dermalogica's regular Overnight Retinol Repair and then after your skin is used to that product, then up your treatment to the more powerful Overnight Retinol Repair 1%. When you start with the latter, mix the buffer cream and retinol at a ratio of 75% buffer cream to 25% retinol. 

My Results:

I have been using this Dermalogica Overnight Retinol Repair 1% for weeks and am just loving it. I did have to go slowly at first with gradually ajusting my buffer cream to retinol ratio. If I went to fast, I would feel tightness and some irriation when washing my face the next morning. So, I just proceeded very slowly and had no issues after that. This is a super powerful cream!!! So, even though you might be used to Retinol, I do advise you to still proceed cautiously and slowly. You will ulitmately be able to get up to using the product at full strenght. But, everyone will have their own rate of progress for that. So, don't rush it. Just listen to your skin and proceed accordingly. 

After consistant use, my skin looks great! I have zero breakouts and my skin is nicely hydrated and fine lines are certainly diminished. I also think that the formula has worked to minimize some sun damage/discolorations that were noticable to me. 

There is no question, I want to use this product long term! Sure, I am a beauty blogger and will always be trying out new products. But this is hands-down one of the most effecive Retinols that I have used and it will always be a product that I return to. I am thrilled with the results. With effective products like this on the market, I feel absolutely no need to get a perscription strength cream. This one does it all for me! 

Yes, it is pricey at $97.00 for a .85 fl oz tube. However, it is sooooo effective and you only need a very small amount for each application. So, this tube should last you awhile.
