See MaxPreps host Myckena Guerrero break down this week's Top 25.
The MaxPreps Xcellent Top 25 National High School Volleyball Rankings presented by the Army National Guard continues to be a revolving door. Seven teams fell from the Top 25 this week, making 16 teams that have been bounced from the rankings in two weeks. That's the highest two-week total in eight years.
The top three — Walton (Ga.), Dorman (Roebuck, S.C.) and Reagan (San Antonio) — remain steady, but after that the shuffle, or re-shuffle, takes place.
New teams from six different states earned a Top 25 ranking in place of the seven that fell out of the rankings. Two of those teams are unbeaten and unbeaten teams get our attention.
Lafayette (Wildwood, Mo.), led by 6-foot-5 Duke pledge
Lily Cooper, might be the hottest teams in the country after winning 15 straight matches and losing one set during that stretch.
Also new to the Top 25 this week are Bishop Shanahan (Downington, Pa.), Berkeley Prep (Tampa, Fla.), Ursuline (Cincinnati), Marian (Omaha, Neb.) and a pair of Indiana teams — Providence (Clarksville) and Avon.
Providence has won 26 straight and 24-2 Avon knocked last week's No. 25 Center Grove from the Top 25. The Orioles also own the only 2017 with a win over highly ranked Yorktown.
The biggest mover of the week was The Woodlands (Texas), which has won 16 in a row and most recently knocked previously ranked Oak Ridge (Conroe, Texas) from the Top 25.
Unbeaten Kuemper (Carroll, Iowa.) is getting a lot of attention because of 6-2 sisters
Kara Peter and
Kalee Peter. The powerhouse hitters have 25-0 Kuemper running on all cylinders.
Also unbeaten in newly ranked Bishop Shanahan (Downington, PA.).
The Nos. 1 and 2 Walton and Dorman are both unbeaten at 27-0s.
Walton is powered by 6-4
Gabby Gonzales, who is averaging 14.4 kills per set with a .520 hitting percentage. Add a 93 percent serving ratio and it's easy to understand the 2017 domination. Walton has lost one of 64 sets this season.
Dorman, which has won 44-straight matches, is led by 6-3 MaxPreps All-American
Thayer Hall, who will play collegiately at Florida.
No. 3 Reagan has won 13 in a row and is averaging a national leading 21.3 digs per set.
This week's featured match on Thursday pits No. 8 Mother McAuley (Chicago) against No. 7 Assumption (Louisville, Ky.). Each is coming off a rare defeat this season.
Two major tournaments will get a lot of attention this weekend with the ASICS Invitational in Chicago and the Nike Tournament of Champions in Phoenix. Each has five teams that are ranked in the Top 25 this week on their courts. Walton, ranked No. 1 again, will be in Arizona with 73 other teams.
