Two men have been identified by police as the suspects in connection with an armed carjacking incident near a Massachusetts beach.
Salisbury police said Wednesday that criminal charges have been filed against Henry Rubiera-Cruz, 19, of Lawrence, and Davis Tejada, 18, of Lawrence, who are accused of trying to rob a family in the Blue Ocean parking lot on Salisbury Beach.
Authorities said the pair approached a family of four on Aug. 7, showed a gun and demanded the car keys.
“The victims refused and sort of walked back toward the restaurant,” Salisbury Police Chief Tom Fowler said. “Unfortunately, there were little kids there. They screamed and that spooked the suspects and they ran off.”
Police said surveillance photos showed Rubiera-Cruz, who was wearing a red baseball hat, and Tejada, wearing dark clothing and a Pittsburgh Pirates baseball hat, in the area at the time of the incident.
Police said Tejada is being held at the Middleton House of Correction on unrelated charges, but Ruberia-Cruz is still at large.
Multiple agencies were involved in the investigation.
