Suspicious envelope causes hazmat situation at Oak Creek Police Department
A suspicious envelope caused a hazmat situation Wednesday morning at the Oak Creek Police Department. On Tuesday, the Oak Creek Police Department received information that a suspicious package had been delivered to another police department in the state. WISN 12 News learned the Green Bay Police Department was that agency and that the package had an unusual odor when it was opened.The Oak Creek Police Department received an envelope addressed to the department but with a name not associated with the department in Tuesday's mail. After talking with the FBI, it was decided it would be safest to have the Milwaukee Fire Department Hazmat team open the envelope. After testing, the hazmat team confirmed that the envelope and its contents contained no dangerous substances. "It's very concerning. We protect our people, care for our people. We care for our employees. We care for our citizens, so anything suspicious, we're gonna do our very best," Oak Creek police, Lt. David Ashenhurst said.
