After being rescued and taken in as a foster by an El Dorado Hills family, one dog is paying it forward and helping save an orphaned squirrel.
Sarah Breuch Macchia has been sharing stories about foster dog Kendal and her blended family on her Facebook page for the past several weeks.
Breuch Macchia and her family took in Kendal while she was pregnant. She had two puppies, Kacey and Kerry, about three weeks ago.
Then a week later, Phoebe -- the orphaned squirrel -- was brought into the home. What happened next is being called a miracle by Breuch Macchia.
“I was holding Phoebe one day and Kendal gently took her from me in her mouth and brought her to her bed,” she said.
Then Kendal began nursing Phoebe. Video posted on Breuch Macchia’s Facebook page shows Phoebe nursing alongside one of Kendal’s puppies, while the other puppy sleeps in the corner.
“She truly feels this is her baby,” Breuch Macchia said. “She has fed her and cleaned her since that day. Miracles do happen. Sweetest mama ever!”
Weeks later, the little family of four is flourishing. Photos show the puppies and squirrel playing, snuggling and sleeping together.
Breuch Macchia said Kendal is paying it forward, “She was a rescue and saved and now she is saving another little soul."
