Rumor Central: Yankees interested in Justin Wilson?

It appears Justin Wilson's former team has joined the seemingly growing list of teams pursuing the Detroit Tigers' closer.

The New York Yankees have entered the sweepstakes for Wilson, according to Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press.

The 29-year-old southpaw posted a 3.10 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and recorded 29 holds in 74 appearances during his lone season in the Bronx in 2015. He was traded to the Tigers prior to the start of the 2016 season in a deal that sent right-handers Luis Cessa and Chad Green to New York.

In 41 games for Detroit this season entering Tuesday, Wilson has 2.75 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and eight holds, striking out 55 batters over 39 1/3 innings. He took over as the team's closer in early May, replacing veteran Francisco Rodriguez, and is 12-for-14 in save opportunities.

The Yankees have already brought back a former reliever this season, acquiring David Robertson from the Chicago White Sox.

The Houston Astros, Milwaukee Brewers, Boston Red Sox, Washington Nationals and Tampa Bay Rays are among the teams linked to Wilson. ESPN's Buster Only predicts that the reliever will be dealt before the July 31 trade deadline.

Wilson is eligible for arbitration this offseason and slated to reach free agency in 2019.
