Tight end Dante Lang (6-5, 220, Boca Raton, FL. High) committed to the Florida Gators on Friday before he worked out in front of the staff in the Swamp later that night.
One of the big reasons that Lang says he’s committed to Florida was the communication that the coaching staff had with him on a daily basis.
“Coach [Greg] Nord and Coach [JaJuan] Seider checking on me every day,” Lang said on why he committed on Friday. “Being a family, not even coaches. Florida was right for me.”
It wasn’t something that Lang didn’t out of nowhere as the tight end headed to Gainesville knowing that he wanted to make this decision.
“Yeah, I knew three weeks ago,” he said on when he decided to commit to Florida. “Basically, once I got my offer and then they kept in contact after a couple of weeks. I thought, ‘Alright, this is where I want to be. This place is home.’”
When Lang told Florida Gators head coach Jim McElwain of his decision, the Gators head man was pretty happy to hear the news.
“When I told him I committed, he was excited about everything,” he said on Mac’s reaction to his commitment. “And he was like, ‘Well, I’m glad to have you up here.’”
Running backs coach JaJuan Seider spoke to Lang about his move from defense to offense and explained why the Gators like him at that position.
“They said that it’s a good move because I know what the defensive ends do already,” Lang said of the coaches message about moving to tight end. “ Because I played defensive end, and they helped me with my hand movement. They said my routes are good, like I always played tight end.”
Seider was the main coach recruiting Lang and the tight end gave him major credit in helping him get to Gainesville and become a Gator.
“Big,” he said on Coach Seider recruiting him. “He’s from the 561, so it’s like brothers, family.”
While on campus on Friday night, Lang started recruiting others to join him in Gainesville and he had a solid approach to recruiting.
“Yeah, I talked to a couple of guys, telling them to get up here,” Lang said on if he recruited anyone. “I try to get to know them and them get to know me, basically. Just try to make them boys slide.”
Lang expects this decision to be the last one he makes but he hasn’t ruled out taking visits.
“Pretty solid, but I’ll probably take my officials,” Lang said on if he will take official visits. “Because my mom, she never goes out of Florida, so she said she wants to take vacations.”
INSIDERS TAKE: Lang performed very well on Friday night and impressed everyone with his route running and his catching ability. The move to tight end for Lang is one that should really be a good one for the young athlete.
