Jerry Jones adamantly defends Ezekiel Elliott against domestic violence allegations
Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones adamantly defends running back Ezekiel Elliott against domestic violence allegations stemming from last year.
As there always is at the start of training camp, there was an atmosphere of optimism surrounding the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. There are also several unanswered questions circling America’s Team.
During Sunday’s opening press conference, one of the biggest questions concerned the possible looming suspension of star running back Ezekiel Elliott.
The 22-year old has been under investigation stemming from an alleged domestic violence incident that happened over a year ago. According to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, the league is in the process of finishing their investigation and should have a decision soon.
Just over a week ago, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Elliott was bracing for a short suspension, somewhere between one or two games.
But at the Cowboys opening press conference for their training camp on Sunday, owner and general manager Jerry Jones adamantly defended Elliott against those domestic violence allegations.
"“I have reviewed everything and there is absolutely nothing – not one thing – that had anything to do with domestic violence,” Jones responded when asked about the charges against Elliott during the Cowboys press conference via ESPN."
This is a bold statement of support by the elder Jones, who has refused to comment about the situation recently. And as likely the most powerful owner in the NFL, you have to believe he is privy to most, if not all, the information the league has gathered in it’s now year long investigation of Elliott.

It seems clear the Dallas Cowboys are not expecting Ezekiel Elliott to miss any time due to the incident. Yet, the NFL seems to play by it’s own set of rules at times. And if the league decides Elliott violated it’s personal conduct policy in some way, a short suspension could be his punishment.
