Matt Corral picks the Florida Gators

The Florida Gators have their quarterback for the 2018 recruiting class. Five star quarterback Matt Corral (6-2, 196, Long Beach Poly, CA) committed to Florida a day after visiting campus for Friday Night Lights.

Corral was previously committed to Southern Cal. He pulled the trigger for the Trojan’s in February of 2016 but backed off that pledge in June. The Army All-American visited Florida for the very first time on Friday to watch Friday Night Lights and committed the very next day.

As a junior last season Corral threw for 3,025 yards on 151-of-235 (64%) passing. He added 22 touchdowns through the air and seven more on the ground.

Corral is the 12th commitment for the 2018 class and the first quarterback. Florida has four quarterbacks on the roster now but Malik Zaire is a fifth year senior and Luke Del Rio will be a redshirt senior when Corral arrives on campus in 2018.

Nick de la Torre
A South Florida native, Nick developed a passion for all things sports at a very young age. His love for baseball was solidified when he saw Al Leiter’s no-hitter for the Marlins live in May of 1996. He was able to play baseball in college but quickly realized there isn’t much of a market for short, slow outfielders that hit around the Mendoza line. Wanting to continue with sports in some capacity he studied journalism at the University of Central Florida. Nick got his first start in the business as an intern for a website covering all things related to the NFL draft before spending two seasons covering the Florida football team at Bleacher Report. That job led him to GatorCountry. When he isn’t covering Gator sports, Nick enjoys hitting way too many shots on the golf course, attempting to keep up with his favorite t.v. shows and watching the Heat, Dolphins and Marlins.
